Boy Scout Archaeology Workshops

The Museum of the Coastal Bend invites Boy Scouts ages 9 and up to participate in our archaeology workshops. Scouts can sign up for just one or multiple workshops. Descriptions, dates, registration deadlines, and prices are listed below. All workshops run from 9am-1:30pm. Registration forms can be downloaded from museumofthecoastalbend.org/groups or picked up at the museum.
What Is Archaeology?: Discover what archaeology is while also learning about career opportunities, the archaeological process, and how you can help protect the past.
Wednesday, June 7 (register by May 25) or Friday, June 30 (register by June 20)–$10 per registrant
Field Days: Participate in a dig at an active archaeological site. *Transportation to the archaeological site is not provided. We request that at least one parent or troop leader per 4 campers be present at the archaeological site. Since this is an active site, closed toed shoes are required.* Chaperones and campers must fill out an additional form to participate.
Friday, June 9 (register by May 25); Friday, June 23 (register by June 6); Friday, July 7 (register by June 27)–$5 per registrant
Lab Days: Learn about and experience an active archaeology lab. Help sort artifacts, and learn about lab procedures.
Tuesday, June 20 (register by June 6); Tuesday, June 27 (register by June 14); Thursday, July 6 (register by June 27)–$5 per registrant
Exhibit Design: In this two day workshop, learn the basics of exhibit design and work with your fellow campers to design one of the museum’s Native Peoples exhibit cases!
Wednesday, July 26-Thursday, July 27–$10 per registrant
